Demonstration of industrial softwood bark in CNF barrier coatings and films

Description

CNF films were prepared from unbleached and delignified bark residues after alkaline extraction of polyphenols. Also bark-based CNF hydrogels were further used in coating formulations for flexible packaging papers and wood coatings. Their properties were compared with barrier films and coatings containing wood-based CNF. Bark-based CNF films produced functional barrier films and coatings with good oxygen, water vapor and grease barrier.
