Description
Autonomous systems are expected to increase productivity in industry, but they can be realized only if appropriate measures are taken to ensure their safety, security and acceptability. Standardization for autonomous systems varies greatly between domains, but often emphasizes the role of risk assessment and management. To achieve efficient development of autonomous systems, the major challenge is to combine expertise from various disciplines. Systems engineering approaches can be used to identify the new challenges introduced by autonomy starting from the early concept design stages, and to manage the design and validation activities. Various digital tools should be used to quickly move from system concepts to implementation. Examples of potential approaches are presented from various perspectives, including issues like connectivity and cyber security.
