Short bio
Dr. Aapo Varpula received his degree of Doctor of Science from Aalto University in 2011. Since late 2011 he has been working on scientific and industrial projects on photonics and MEMS at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. He is currently leading the Medical microsystems team, which is working on various devices and sensor systems for a broad range of applications, including medical applications. These include Fabry-Pérot-interferometer (FPI) modules and MEMS devices, ultrasonic and acoustic MEMS sensors and systems, MEMS sensors, infrared detectors, and thermophotonics. He has strong expertise in optical and thermal detectors and devices, thermoelectrics, chemical sensors, solar energy, photovoltaics, energy harvesting, MEMS, semiconductor devices, device physics, and device modelling, design, fabrication, and characterization.
