Personal profile
Research interests
I work as a Senior Scientist, Project Manager (IPMA C) and Ecosystem Lead for Autonomous Systems at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. Currently, I am working in many drone-related projects, such as the Finnish UAV Ecosystem (FUAVE) and FireMan, which is about unmanned aerial systems based solutions for real-time management of wildfires. I am also the Coordinator for the Rethinking Autonomy and Safety (RAAS) ecosystem. More information about FUAVE is available at www.fuave.fi and about RAAS at www.autonomous.fi
With a professional background in human factors, usability, and user experience/interface/interaction R&D, I have experience both from the academia and industry. During my career, I have been previously involved in the development of various automated systems ranging from autonomous ship and metro systems to remotely operated industrial robots and container cranes.
My educational background includes a doctor's degree in cognitive science and a master's degree in economics. At VTT, I have gained a strong domain competence, for example, from marine applications, road and rail traffic, process industry, and ICT. In addition to autonomous systems R&D, I have been involved in projects related to, for instance, power plant control room operator work, ship command bridges, maritime search and rescue, and drones. My current research interests focus specifically on human factors and user experience issues of autonomous systems design and evaluation.
