Personal profile

Research interests

I work as a Senior Scientist and Ecosystem Lead for Autonomous Systems. Currently, I am also the Coordinator for the Rethinking Autonomy and Safety (RAAS) ecosystem. More information about RAAS is available at www.autonomous.fi

I have 17 years of work experience in human factors, usability, and user experience/interface/interaction research both from the academia and industry. In addition, during my career at VTT, I have been working in the development of various autonomous systems ranging from autonomous ship and metro systems to remotely operated industrial robots and container cranes.

My educational background includes a doctor's degree in cognitive science and a master's degree in economics. At VTT, I have gained a strong domain competence, for example, from marine applications, road and rail traffic, process industry, and ICT. In addition to autonomous systems design, I have been involved in projects related also to, for instance, nuclear power plant control room operator work, ship command bridges, maritime SAR, and drones.

My current research interest focuses on user experience and human factors issues of autonomous systems design and evaluation.

Please contact me, if you have any questions, for example, about RAAS.
