Research interests
Senior research scientist, Ismo Heimonen has experience in thermal, solar and ventilation performance of walls, windows, glazing structures, solar collectors and buildings. He has been performing researches in area of building physics and indoor climate, energy systems of buildings and districts. He is expert in building energy system performance evaluation by simulation and testing, and has experience on control of building service systems. He has participated in researches related to business and service models of buildings and energy systems.
He has been involved in national and international research programmes and projects. Participation in IEA/SHCP/Task 18 Advanced Glazing and Associated Materials for Solar and Building Applications, IEA/SHC/Task 27 Building Envelope Components and IEA/BEC/Annex 35 Hybrid ventilation in new and retrofitted office buildings. Participation in several EU-projects e.g. Solar Control, Smart Window, PVHYBPAS, IQTEST, WINDAT, GREEN-IT, e-Hub, EXCESS and SPARCs. Coordinator of EU FP7 project CITYOPT. Participation in Zambian Green Jobs Programme as project manager for the project developing principles of green construction and implementation of these in demo houses. Management of 3 pilot house construction at Lumwana and Kalumbila in Zambia. Project management of UN 10YFP SLE sustainable lifestyle and education programme project “Showing the sustainable lifestyle behaviour and technologies for energy efficient households in Zambia”. Project manager in Smart Energy ecosystem projects Smart Otaniemi piloting (2018-2020) and Smart Otaniemi piloting phase 2 (2019-2021) www.smartotaniemi.fi
