Personal profile

Research interests

I am broadly interested in method development in the context of biosensors and diagnostics. My particular interests are in immunology, antibody engineering and infectious diseases. I have niche expertise in the field of innate immunity, particularly the complement system.

Expertise area

Assay development over varied platforms, antibody production, modification and functionalization.

Short bio

I got my M.Sc in biochemistry and clinical chemistry from Univeristy of Helsinki in 2007, followed by few years as an Application scientist at a start-up company in Finland.

In 2011, I was accepted as an Early Stage Researcher at Marie Sklodowska-Curie consortium TransVIR. I was positioned in the Netherlands at Hycult Bv and Leiden University Medical Centre, department of Nephrology. I completed my thesis from the project in 2017, focusing on analysis of innate immunity in experimental models of renal ischemia/reperfusion injury and disease.

In 2015 I had already moved to Ireland and worked at another start-up called Vaccinogen Ltd on the field of antibody discovery and cancer vaccines. While that company did not reach its funding targets, I continued with the team and their other endevours on consulting basis until 2017 when I relocated back to Finland and started as a post doctoral scientist at the Univeristy of Helsinki, Faculty of Medicine.

There, my main role was to supervise the laboratory, teach and mentor Master´s and PhD students. In 2022 I returned to VTT after nearly 15 years gaining experience in and out of Finland, and continued at the Immunotechnology team where I did my very first laboratory practice back in 2004.
