Short bio

I am a principal research scientist at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd, with a background in metabolic engineering of yeast and filamentous fungi. I completed my Ph.D. studies in the field of lipid metabolism and catabolism at the University of Oulu, Finland, in 1997. Since 1998, I have been at VTT where my work has focused on biorefinery and biofuel applications with yeast and filamentous fungi. My research has recently focused on the utilization of microbial lipids in cellular agriculture applications. I have been involved in projects such as CERAFIM: Cellular Agriculture for Sustainable Food and Materials and ASAP: Accelerating Sustainable Age of Plastics. I have published 17 scientific papers and 17 patent applications. Some of his notable works include research on genetically modified fungi for lipid production and microbial production of food lipids using the oleaginous yeast Apiotrichum brassicae
