Personal profile

Research interests

I am a determined and multiskilled Doctor of Science in Technology focusing on energy transition in electricity distribution networks. I received my PhD (2021) in “The Evolution and Active Management of the Future Electricity Distribution Networks Providing Ancillary Services” explaining my interest.

My current interest relates to the interdisciplinary aspects of the solutions for future energy systems, especially for Smart Grids and microgrids. I am attracted to multidisciplinary roadmapping work and
considering different levels of energy system concepts and various stakeholders or actors. I am interested in accelerating the RDI process and the successful implementation of new solutions. How to develop successful solutions, niche experiments and further establish them as new practices?

Expertise area

  • Multidisciplinary evolution of electricity distribution networks – not only techno-economic considerations but also socio-technical and socio-economic future scenarios are of interest
  • Offline simulation, Real-time simulation, Hardware-in-the-loop testing

  • Active distribution network management: Ancillary services (DR, Volt/VAR control), Microgrids

  • Energy Communities

Research interests

I received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from VAMK Ltd., University of Applied Sciences, Vaasa in 1998, the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Vaasa in 2012, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Vaasa in 2021. I have been a Post-Doctoral Researcher, Project Researcher, Laboratory Engineer, and Research assistant at the University of Vaasa. I have been an R&D Project Manager with ABB Breakers and Switches Ltd. Also, I have been an entrepreneur and a Managing Director with an electrical planning and installation company KHS-Sähkö Ltd. Currently, I am employed as Senior Scientist with VTT Research Centre of Finland. My research interests include Smart Grids and microgrids, the evolution and active management of electricity distribution networks, and ancillary services in future smart grids.
