Personal profile

Research interests

Current: As Manager, Operations support (1.1.2020→) I support for the operational excellence and quality in the Biomaterial processing and products research area (former Biomass processing and products). My duties include active contribution to RA leadership, sharing management tasks with RA VP, Research portfolio manager and Research team leaders.

Research: Product safety issues of existing and novel materials intended especially for food contact. My main competence areas in product safety are food packages and food packaging materials (paperboard, plastics, multilayers, A&I materials and articles, e.g. indicators), packages for cosmetic products, consumer textiles and other products like paper mulches used in agriculture. Migration of chemical substances from FCMs to food, e.g. printing ink compounds, mineral oil compounds. In addition, novel bio-based barrier materials made of new raw materials like agriculture or food industrial side-flows, novel coatings made for example using atomic layer deposition, and nanomaterials, e.g. nanocellulose and nanomaterial containing composites including consumers and occupational health issues are quite familiar. I have also studied safety matters related to fumigants and harmful volatile compounds existing in freight containers and imported goods, and safety questions related to recycling and processing of textile waste to new textile products, including consumers and occupational health issues.

Current legislation and recommendations (EU, FDA, BfR, Paper Resolution, etc.) concerning FCMs, products produced using nanotechnologies, chemicals (REACH), occupational working space, regulations related to plastic recycling for FCMs and EU Waste policy on circular economy linked to textiles and plastics.
