Matthias Deschryvere is a senior research scientist and innovation economist at VTT Technical Research Centre Finland Ltd. His expertise lies in understanding how innovation impacts the performance of firms, ecosystems, and entire countries.
Deschryvere's current research concentrates on the vital role technology and technology policy play in: (1) Economic growth, (2) Sustainable development, and (3) National security.
He believes that building robust data infrastructure is crucial for monitoring critical and emerging technologies to achieve these goals. Beyond his role at VTT, Deschryvere has contributed to various think tanks and research units globally, including: Kiel Institute of World Economics (Germany), Belgian Knowledge Centre for SME Financing (Belgium), ETLA Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (Finland), SPRU Science Policy Research Unit (UK), STEPI Science and Technology Policy Institute (South Korea)
His research interests encompass innovation process, firm performance (large firms, SME’s, start-ups, spin-offs), firm growth, ecosystem performance, IPR, innovation policy, critical technologies, international technology cooperation, (multilateral) technology policy, IPR, data, innovation measurement, econometrics.
