Short bio

Vilma completed her studies at Tampere University (then Tampere University of Technology) in Finland, where she obtained her M.Sc. on soldering of current carrying copper wires on solar panels, and D.Sc. on heavy impact and abrasive wear testing of wear resistant steels.

She conducted her post-doc at University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, during 2016-2019, concentrating on testing of tribocorrosion of ferrous and non-ferrousmaterials in PWR simulating conditions of elevated temperature and pressure and their characterisation.

After starting at VTT at 2019, she has been working on e.g. microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) and corrosion, microstructural characterisation in projects related to materials performance and durability in applications such as nuclear waste repositories.

Since 2024, she has been leading the Materials performance and interactions team, which concentrates on corrosion, tribology and metallography with about 15 colleagues.
