A Digital end-user toolset for Moisture assessment in Wooden buildings - 1st part: Hygro-thermal database DigiMoist1

Project: Finnish government project

Project Details

Description

The DigiMoist1 project belongs to the Aid scheme: “Growth and Development from Wood: grant application autumn 2018”, included in the “Wood Building Action Plan”, 1st round: “Promoting the digitalization of timber construction” The project developed an input database as well as a collection of numerical tools, named DigiMoist toolset, to simulate the hygro-thermal response of wooden components of buildings under different Finnish climates. The database collects the weather data and the material properties needed
to carry out numerical hygro-thermal analyses by using the finite element method (FEM). This allowed performing several pre-calculations to predict the moisture gradients and moisture contents, as well as the related risks of cracking and decay, in various cross sections of wooden components, such as glued laminated timber (glulam) and cross laminated timber (CLT). In addition, experimental tests for measurements of sorption isotherms of Thermowood (TW) were performed and a first model for A Digital end-user toolset for Moisture assessment in Wooden buildings.
