Description

VTT is decommissioning the FiR 1 research reactor located in Otaniemi, Espoo. The reactor was shut down permanently in June 2015. Main activities of the project include radiological characterization, planning, licensing, spent nuclear fuel management (return to USA for further use and disposal), dismantling of reactor systems, structures and components, management of dismantling waste, and final clearance of the site. VTT's main contractor in decommissioning is Fortum Power and Heat Oy.
