Energy storage concepts and flow batteries

Project: Finnish government project

Project Details

Description

Efficient energy storages are vital for accelerating renewable variable energy investments, by balancing load on the energy system. The project focuses on the research of new energy storage technologies, with single largest effort in operational studies of a flow battery system integrated to a solar power capacity. In addition, conceptual studies of other long duration energy storages and seasonal energy storages are carried out. The goal is to identify novel energy storage designs and applications for Finland and accelerate the piloting of promising technologies. Furthermore, the project aims to improve VTT's readiness to advance pre-commercial energy storage technologies.
