Global trends in IAQ - Novel technologies, Competence and Business

In the GIANT (Global trends in IAQ: Novel technologies, Competence and Business) project, world-leading expertise is used to understand indoor aerosol phenomena, indoor and outdoor sources of pollutants as well as their impacts on indoor air quality and health. The focus of the project is on emerging pollutants, i.e., ultrafine particles and black carbon that are included in new WHO guidelines covering both outdoor and indoor environments, and volatile organic compounds and secondary aerosols. The GIANT project will aim to scientifically understand the possibilities for advanced indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring and pollutant mitigation strategies and thus, generate international business based on scientific knowledge.

The GIANT consortium is large containing expertise and research infrastructures from five research institutes and universities, several municipalities, and number of companies with focus on relevant areas such as instrumental development and IAQ measurements, air purification, ventilation and data visualization. These are fulfilled with international expertise and infrastructures of project's international collaborators.

Research activities of the GIANT project conducted together by research institutes, companies and municipalities creates strong scientific bases that is urgently needed to respond to the potentially increasing international businesses in the market segments of air quality monitoring and management, energy efficient ventilation and air purification. By GIANT partners, new market potential is created especially by sustainable and environmentally friendly high-tech solutions utilizing loT, AI and digitalization.
