Natural, sustainable and high-performance ingredients and products manufactured with Activated Seeds

Fast market growth is seen for the products with natural and sustainable ingredients as well as with health-promoting and functional properties such as functional foods, natural cosmetics and herbal medicines. Our vision is that by 2026, Finland is recognized exporter of clean label, high-performance ingredients and products for food, pet food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical sectors. Seeds and grains are nature's "bioreactors" that can be technologically activated and used to produce innovative natural and sustainable ingredients with high nutritional value, tailored structure and sensory quality, and specific functionality or bioactivity. These high-value ingredients can be applied to increase health benefits, to replace synthetic additives and to decrease environmental impacts of foods, pet foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Active Seeds project will explore the potential of seeds and grains as well as their processing side-streams as a source of clean label, high-performance ingredients. In addition, the project aimed to develop new business and promote export by the clean label technologies and products as well as strengthen Finland's role as a top plant-based technology and innovation actor in the world. The ActiveSeeds consortium will join research institutes, VTT and Luke, raw material and side-stream suppliers, seed bioactivators and down-stream processors, equipment manufacturers, product designers and brand owners. The Co-Creation project will focus to put together an innovative consortium, to plan the content of a Co-Innovation project and collaboration between the project partners, and finally to apply for the Co-Innovation project in order to achieve our proud vision.
