Shared Situational Awareness for Optimized and Safe Mixed Fleets

Project: Business Finland project

Project Details

Description

The main aim of VTT’s MixedFleet ’’Shared Situational Awareness for Optimized and Safe Mixed Fleets” project is to support MixedFleet consortium’s common business and R&D aims. Heterogeneous fleet of AGVs, AMRs as well as manned and unmanned moving machines enhance automation and more efficient operations in production and e.g. internal logistics. However, currently data and information are dispersed over various machines and operations hindering holistic fleet and factory optimization. Also, increasing number of mixed fleets may cause new emerging safety risks.

VTT’s MixedFleet project aims to research and help Finnish industry in the creation of shared situational awareness that is a holistic view of various machines, routes, and factory operations to improve operations efficiency, safety and the interplay between machines and humans. In the project, robot and AGV status and task data as well as loT data from fixed sensors are collected autonomously at the whole fleet and factory level. VTT investigates and identifies relevant data sources, potential sharing mechanisms between machines and actors and develops data sharing models for mixed fleet optimization and safety. VTT develops solutions for autonomous scanning, data collection and visualization, which will be demonstrated in three industrial cases with the consortium companies. The second large entity of VTT’s project studies and develops systemic safety of mixed fleet. In the project, central new emerging risks are identified, and new models will be developed for risk management.
VTT participates as a partner in the co-innovation project coordinated by FIMA.
