She Figures 2027

She Figures 2027 builds on two decades of European commitment to advancing gender equality in R&I. As the European Commission’s flagship publication monitoring gender equality in R&I, it operates at the intersection of evidence and policy, providing data that underpins structural reforms across the ERA. Over successive policy cycles, gender equality has evolved from an ethical imperative to a strategic driver of excellence, competitiveness and societal relevance.

The 2027 edition will be developed in a rapidly transforming policy environment shaped by the ERA Policy Agenda 2025–2027, the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020–2025 and its forthcoming roadmap and the New European Innovation Agenda (2022). These frameworks underscore a shared understanding that inclusiveness and gender equality are central to Europe’s scientific excellence and global competitiveness. Within this context, She Figures 2027 must both ensure continuity with earlier editions and demonstrate evolution. It will extend monitoring into new fields such as entrepreneurship, innovation ecosystems, and accessible data communication. Importantly, it will mainstream intersectionality, embedding it as both an analytical and ethical principle across all stages of data collection, analysis, reporting and communication. In doing so, it will consolidate its role as the EU’s principal gender equality monitoring tool in R&I and policy instrument designed to drive systemic change.
