Project Details
Description
SmartRecovery is a collaborative project between VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Aalto University supported by a company consortium. The project supports Finnish industries in the shift to bio-based solutions by boosting lignin commercialization and enabling the market entry of new lignin-based products and materials. SmartRecovery strengthens Finnish competence in developing novel bio-based products to the fast-growing global markets. SmartRecovery provides a novel approach to recover lignin from biorefinery side streams with a defined morphology, which is expected to enhance the applicability of lignin e.g. in coatings and resins. Moreover, novel analytical methods will be developed for lignin characterization in collaboration with international experts. The development of new analytical methods improves the current understanding of the structure-property-performance properties of lignin, which is essential for the overall success of the project.
