Sustainable Network Security Tech for 6G

Project: Business Finland project

Project Details

Description

Security challenges in 6G present a complicated scenario mainly due to the radical shift from previous cellular generations, i.e., 5G, and nature of security threats. Furthermore, the challenges related to sustainability of network security did not play a major role in 5G and the prior generations. Therefore, research is needed on the sustainability aspects of future network security technologies, mainly in the realm of 6G. The SUNSET-6G (Sustainable Network Security Technologies for 6G) project will solve the foreseen security challenges mainly through research on developing an end-to-end 6G security architecture and technologies based on the technological principles of I) Distributed Intelligence; II) Distributed Software-Defined Security; III) Distributed Network Semantics; IV) Distributed ledger Technology; and V) Sustainable-by-design. The SUNSET-6G research project aims to layout a roadmap for sustainable and distributed security in 6G. Sustainability in terms of minimizing bandwidth/spectrum, processing, memory, and energy can be achieved with localized security policies, techniques and supporting network architecture.
