    Abstract

Presented optical method is used in creation of a light field display with small light emitters and diffractive elements that form a directional backlight module. A series of light beams can be generated from a single source towards different directions by adding diffractive elements on top of collimating microlenses. An LCD panel is used as a pixelated spatial light modulator. 3D picture can be formed by modulating the light emitter output and LCD pixels according to the image content at different view directions and a series of unique stereoscopic views is generated.
