Abstract

Free space optics enables high data rate satellite communications but suffers from turbulence-induced losses. A coherent combiner for a turbulence mitigation scheme is presented and characterised, based on a 32-input photonic integrated circuit on a low-loss, thick SOI open platform offered by VTT.
