    Abstract

The paper presents a study of performance of load-bearing glulam beams in a natural fire in a grocery shop building. The mechanical behaviour of the beams in the fire situation is evaluated on the basis of the charring of the material in the natural fire exposure. The fire exposure is assessed using a two-step procedure: first, the fire development is studied using the 3D fire simulation program FDS 3.0 and secondly, the information on the fire development obtained by the FDS simulations is used as an input to the PFS-Ozone program which allows a probabilistic simulation of the fire exposure of the beams. Finally, the failure of the beams is determined using Monte Carlo analysis of the limit-state function.
