Abstract

Due to the time varying nature of wireless channel, the uplink bandwidth allocation in point to multi-point wireless networks is different from that in wireline networks. The channel state of wireless links can be used in the allocation algorithm to improve the system performance. Taking into account the channel state of mobile terminals and the adaptive modulation and coding scheme at the physical layer, we propose a channel state aware bandwidth allocation algorithm that makes a balance among QoS provisioning, fairness, and overall system capacity. It provides QoS support for delay sensitive and bandwidth sensitive services, maintains fairness among best traffic services, and meanwhile maximizes the system capacity by exploiting the multiuser diversity. The proposed scheme uses the radio resources efficiently, and enjoys its flexibility and scalability. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated via simulations.
