Abstract

The author presents a new method for optimal sizing of fixed or automatically switched reactive power compensation capacitors for industrial power systems. The capacitor locations considered are substations, motor control centres and motor locations. In the method the size of capacitors is optimized with respect to the costs of power losses, energy losses and investments.
