    Abstract

The critical variables affecting the cleavage fracture of steels are rather well known. In this work these variables have been considered in the frames of a statistical model. Comparison of fracture toughness values predicted from the model and corresponding experimental values show excellent agreement for a variety of microstructures. Different possibilities of the use of the model are shortly discussed.
