    Abstract

The main goal of this study was to develop and to verify a reliable and simple test method for the determination of the fatigue strength of the corners of structural hollow sections. Various alternative specimen geometries and test setups were generated for use of a traditional push-pull fatigue machine. All alternatives were studied using FEA and based on those results, two test specimen geometries were selected for pilot fatigue tests. On the basis of the pilot fatigue tests one test geometry was finally selected. The test method was verified by fatigue tests for two series of cold-formed and for one series of hot-finished structural hollow sections of size 100x100x5.
