Abstract
Wind farm developers are often competing with each other with similar interests and on the other hand, there are the grid operators into whose grid the wind farms are to be connected. Thus there are several players who oversee their own interests and responsibilities. This study compares the different offshore wind farm topologies in Europe and tries to find out the best overall solution for Finnish offshore wind farm grid connections on the Bothnian Bay. Technical and economical aspects are considered when offshore transmission system is planned to fulfil the grid codes.
