Abstract

Building technology, more so than other branches of technology, is strongly tied to the surrounding society. Future visions of building technology are therefore different in different societies, which fall roughly into early industrialised countries, newly industrialised countries and developing countries. This vision focuses on early industrialised countries, but in the longer term is also valid for newly industrialised countries. In developing countries the building technology will probably take different directions in the long term, although some similarities might exist.
