Abstract
In Technical Research Center of Finland a NEC Pelletron 5SDH-2 particle accelerator from the NEC company has been moved in a new location. The current location of this accelerator is at the VTT Microelectronics Centre at Otaniemi, Espoo. The tandem accelerator was down for a while due to changing the VTT Microelectronics Centre facilities into it's new building. The accelerator has been working from the beginning of the year 2001 and is running continuously. The maximum terminal voltage of this accelerator is 1.7 MV capable of producing He2+ ions of 5.1 MeV kinetic energy. The available ions are presently H+, He+ and He2+. The accelerator is set up for Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy and precision channeling studies of crystalline samples. The conventional elastic recoil detection analysis is possible for measuring hydrogen profiles in solid samples. The work performed by this accelerator has given a contribution to several publications and doctoral thesis.
