Abstract

In this literature study, actinide speciation in groundwater by laser spectroscopy is surveyed in order to represent the techniques and the type of information obtained. Due to high sensitivity, measurement of very dilute solutions can be made, which facilitates the study of the behaviour of actinides in natural aquatic environments connected with the safety assessment of the final disposal of radioactive wastes. Instrumentation for Laser-Induced Photoacoustic Spectroscopy (LPAS) and Time-Resolved Laser Fluorescence Spectroscopy (TRLFS) complexation studies with the most important ligands as well as direct groundwater actinide speciation studies are described.
