    Abstract

In this work, reliability and reproducibility of cross-sectional scratch test has been studied for plasma sprayed yttria-stabilized zirconia and TiO2 coatings with NiCr bondcoat. The scratch test was conducted on the cross-section of the spray coatings. An image of the scratched area was taken after testing using an optical microscope in order to determine failure mode. With a statistical evaluation, the adhesion and cohesion strength were determined. The results show that the scratch test on a cross-section can be used as an effective and quantitative way for estimation of adhesion or cohesion strength of plasma spray coating
