Abstract

The Proceedings volume, Advances in Man-Machine Interactions, of the Joint Finnish - Soviet Symposium on Man-Machine Interface, Control Rooms, and Expert Systems consists of papers by Finnish and Soviet scientists and engineers on new development in thin area of research.The Symposium, organized under the auspices of the Working Group on Cybernetics of the Finnish - Soviet Commission on Scientific and Technical Co-operation, was held in Helsinki and Espoo, Finland, on October 21 - 23, 1986.More than 50 persons from universities, research institutes, and industrial companies attended the Symposium, and 21 papers were presented.A significant number of papers is on expert systems, including numerous topics from knowledge acquisition and presentation to practical experience on expert systems in specific applications.The papers have been organized into six sessions: 1 General, 2 Representation, 3 Natural Language, 4 Control Rooms, 5 Simulation, and 6 Applications.
