Abstract

In previous studies dealing with the influence of air cleaning devices on radon decay products, the electrostatic precipitator was found to produce aerosol particles when no other aerosol sources were present (Lehtim/iki et al., 1984; Rajala et al., 1986). Since this effect is related to the corona discharge in the precipitator, it is possible that the ozone produced by the discharge has a great effect on the production of condensation nuclei (Peyrous and Lapeyre, 1982). In the present work the factors affecting the formation of these aerosol particles have been studied under laboratory conditions.
