Abstract
Maintenance is an essential part of successful operation
of all modern industrial systems and an important
activity to keep up and improve their dependability.
Establishing a proper maintenance programme requires a
systematic approach to ensure that the resulting
programme fulfills the demands placed on maintenance. The
selected maintenance tasks should be effective against
the identified fault modes and failure mechanisms.
Methods for estimating the cost-effectiveness of
maintenance tasks are needed and one practical approach
is proposed in this paper.
