Abstract

Inspection qualification is essential means to sustain the reliability of NDT systems. This work aims to provide an insight into the simulation-based Probability of Detection studies as an option to quantify the analysis of those parameters influence an ultrasonic inspection system. CIVA NDE simulation software is used to perform ultrasonic inspection of steel block containing non-metallic inclusions. The inspection, used both longitudinal and shear waves, influenced by uncertain orientation of the defect. The probability of detection curves are generated from a total of 750 inspections of inclusions having heights between 0.1mm to 2mm. Graphical results are presented and discussed from the perspective of the inspection qualification methodology, documented by the European Network for Inspection Qualification.
