Abstract
Summary form only given. The emphasis of research on intelligent CAD (computer-aided design) systems has been on knowledge-based techniques, and older, already established techniques such as optimization and simulation have attracted little attention. The authors argue that the combination of these different techniques would be superior to the use of a single technique and would result in important benefits in the CAD field. They are testing these concepts in a project developing a CAD system to support engineers in RF design.
