Abstract
Motivated by growing worries about urgent environmental issues such as global warming and the rapid depletion of fossil fuel supplies, people all over the world are turning to cleaner, more sustainable alternatives. Among various energy saving technologies, wind energy conversion system (WECS) is among the most prominent and rapidly evolving technologies and playing a critical role in renewable power generation. During generation variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) present numerous issues including wind variability, pitch regulation, and rotor speed fluctuation. To meet rising demand and reduce the susceptibility of VSWT, an effective control system is required which assures the efficient power production. Recently, researchers are focusing on advances in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) which improves both sustainability and effectiveness of electricity production in WECS. Accordingly, this chapter presents an extensive review of existing literature on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based control strategies for the operating zones of VSWT in WECS.
