Abstract

Extensive model tests with two basic mobile drilling islands for Arctic oil exploration have been carried out in waves. The significant effect of an abruptly changing water plane and the effect of slow speed on wave-induced motions and added resistance have been studied. Measured data have been compared to theoretical predictions by the 3-dimensional. linear sink-source method including the effect of low forward speed.
