Abstract
In Finland the research of arctic technology is based on
knowhow of winter navigation and construction. During the
past five years research and development work has gained
in volume and it now covers new areas, such as offshore
technology in arctic seas and instrumentation and
measuring systems in arctic climate.
The publication contains basic data and short summaries
of arctic technology research projects under study during
1983 - 84 and under public financing. In the area of
arctic technology cooperation between different research
institutes and private companies has become very
comprehensive. In addition to VTT's research projects the
publication also includes the most important projects
under way in other research institutes, like in Helsinki
and Oulu Universities, in Helsinki University of
Technology and in Marine Research Institute.
