Abstract

An easy method for estimating energy consumption and environmental impacts in private small houses is presented. Ordinary people should be able to make the right decisions in very early phases of the building process. It is also possible to compare alternatives by relying on a simple LCC model. The method is a part of the larger quality assurance process developed by the Building Supervising Office in Oulu. The system was tested in the annual housing exhibition ofOulu in 2005. The results were promising. The energy efficiency and environmental model is based on about 60 questions. In this model, there are calculation models for heating energy consumption, CO2 impacts and LCC. The result can be seen by quality points and stars. The method has
given rise to great interest among Finnish building authorities.
