    Abstract

The goal of this paper is to present the capability of APROS plant analyzer to simulate real plant thermal hydraulic transients and to discuss the factors affecting the speed and accuracy of the analysis. The Loviisa-2 stuck-open turbine by-pass valve transient, also known as the primary circuit overcooling transient, is one of the very few unplanned real plant transients that have taken place in the Loviisa units. It took place on September 1, 1981. The emphasis in this transient is on the thermal hydraulic behavior. The plant measurement data has been previously used in the assessment of RELAP5/MOD2 code. This transient has been used also in an earlier assessment of APROS that has less extensive and resulted in some discrepancies between data and code predictions. Now the transient has been analyzed with various model combinations of APROS and good results in comparison with measurement data have been obtained.
