Abstract

The main factor which has hitherto prevented the more widespread use of many coating processes has been poor adhesion. There is a real need for a standard test for adhesion to improve user confidence and avoid failure in service. We discuss the available adhesion test methods and recommend the scratch test as offering the best solution at this time, and a new laser photothermal technique as having good potential.
