Abstract
The design of process automation system has got more
importance related to plant economy, availability and
safety. To manage the design process and to guarantee the
quality of design different aids and tools have been
proposed, e.g. computer aided requirement specification
tools. To develop, e.g. computer aided design tools, a
structured model of the design process is needed to
understand interactions and feedbacks. The report
describes the design process with its problems and
interactions, developes a structural model for the design
process and gives a short overview of the design tools
available today. Short comments to the closely related
areas, like ULSI-design and software engineering are also
given.
