Autonomous mobile machines: A case study of technology development and transfer

Abstract

This study describes the activities and projects on autonomous mobile machines and robots carried out by a joint research group at VTT and HUT (Helsinki University of Technology) during 1987 1993. The largest projects were the ESPRIT II Panorama-project (EP 2483) and the domestic Outdoor Robotics-technology program. The purpose is to analyze and discuss the aspects of technology development, learning, technology transfer and exploitation of the gained knowledge and competence.
