Abstract

The proceedings of the fifth Finnish-Soviet seminar on "Bioconversion of plant raw materials" are presented as sixteen papers. These papers concern microbiological, technological and biochemical aspects of the bioconversion of lignocellulosic materials. Methods of pretreatment, fermentation techniques and the properties of the microbes and enzyrnes involved are described. Application of molecular biology to the problem is discussed.Biomass production is introduced as a new area for the seminar.
