Abstract
Car-based sharing refers to the sharing economy of mobility that uses service provider-owned and privately-owned cars as a transport mode. This includes carsharing and sharing a car ride, such as carpooling, ridesourcing and organised hitchhiking. Shared mobility is characterised by technology utilisation and mobile applications. Carsharing can be organised by private organisations, companies for their internal use, non-profit based on communal interest and peer-to-peer with private individuals and personal vehicles. Carpooling refers to sharing a car ride and costs without financial interest. Ridesourcing is a for-profit service utilising private vehicles. Organised hitchhiking shares car rides free of charge.
