Abstract

Work in the biotechnical laboratory of the Technical Research Centre of Finland in cooperation with the research laboratories of ALKO Ltd has led to the development of mutant strains and process conditions for the industrial scale production of cellulases by Trichoderma reesei. Enzymes produced on glucose-based media were used in prolonged hydrolysis tests using steam pretreated birchwood and Solka floc cellulose (5. 0%) as substrate. The hydrolysis results obtained with these enzymes compared very favourably with those obtained using cellulase produced on the cullulose-based FF3 medium.
