Abstract

This is a recording of the real-time online professional development workshop (PDF) from the Academy of Management Meeting 2020 conference.

The PDW was about common methodological problems in operations management research and it contained four presentations and a discussion. In the first presentation, the editors-in-chief of Journal of Operations Management, Suzanne De Treville and Tyson Browning, presented the current state of the journal. After this, Mikko Rönkkö briefly talked about the methods review process.

The third presentation was given by Henni Tenhunen. She presented the results of a work-in-progress paper by her, Gabriella Laatikainen, and Mikko Rönkkö where the authors tried to identify common methodological problems by reviewing editor decision letters written by Rönkkö (Study 1) and articles published in JOM. After this Mikko Rönkkö gave the final presentation where he focused on a couple of methodological problems in the journal and how they could be addressed. Co-department editor Guangzhi Shang was the main commentator.
