Abstract
Comparisons of field measurements made with a HydroTech WS-3 and a Metek USA-1 sonic anemometer are presented. The data include both icing and nonicing conditions. Calibrations for both instrument types were first made in a big wind tunnel. The wind speeds then measured by the two anemometers in the field correlated well but had a systematic difference. The off-axis response of the HydroTech anemometer in the field conditions was found to be significant but smaller than expected, based on previous wind tunnel tests, and too small to solve the previously found discrepancy with results of the Rosemount solid state anemometer.
